VN781 Premium Economy Flight Report

After a fantastic holiday, I took the return flight back to MEL to see what happened to their service after a surprising experience back in late 2023. Check-in was fast and normal as I used the Priority Check-in. Staff were friendly and allowed my checked suitcase, which was about 1 kg over the limit. Departing from SGN has always been a nightmare due to the long queue of passengers at the customs and security area. Luckily, I still have enough time to visit the Apricot lounge before boarding.

The lounge was crowded, and I was shy, so I just took a photo of a small section of the buffet area and my dish for a late dinner. Boarding was smooth, and we had an on-time departure.

Here are the details of my flight:
Flight no: VN781 SGN-MEL

Aircraft: Airbus 350-900 VN-A899 ( the exact plane that flew my back home from MEL in the previous trip)

Seat: 11H ( non-window seat)

Class: Premium Economy

Flight duration: 7h50mins

The amenities were pretty much the same as the previous flight. A soft blanket and pillow, a pair of slippers and headphones were provided. No amenity kit for this nearly 8h flight. I didn’t want to go into too much detail about the seat as it is the same as the other flights that I took with VNA on their A350. Kindly visit my previous review here:

A hot towel and welcome drink were provided to all Pre-eco passengers by the crew once they arrived at their seats, which was a fast and efficient service. Well, there were two options for both dinner and breakfast on this flight like the previous flight. Here is the first meal:

Look at the tray, I forgot the other option, but it was Western style. I went for the fish cake rice with bok choy. Beverages, including alcohol, were also available. I went for a cup of milk instead of water haha. The food was good except for the salad, which was not to my taste. It was too sour, but the pork was good. Dessert was one of the airline’s best options, so I had nothing to worry about. Not overly sweet, with just a hint of gentle sweetness. Tea and coffee were available after the meal. Luckily, there was no turbulence, so the service was smooth. I went for a cup of tea before going to sleep. The recline was good. I couldn't sleep because a baby in the cabin was crying, which was understandable. The crew came and checked the cabin quite often; they even helped the parents to look after their baby, which was cute. When the crew saw me awake, they offered me several bottles of water, and you know the consequence after that lmao.

Breakfast was served 2h before landing. The first option was potato with sausage and scrambled egg, while the second option was congee. I went for the congee option.

On the tray, we were provided a mixed selection of either croissant, bun or garlic bread. A tray of fruit and a cup of yoghurt were pretty good for breakfast. The congee with minced pork was delicious. Not too salty or flavourless, which was perfect for breakfast, especially for Premium Economy and Economy passengers. Tea and coffee were available after breakfast, but I didn’t have any of them.

We landed on time, and overall, there are not many comments for this flight. The crew was very kind and friendly, and the service was good. The 1st meal was decent but not that bad, while breakfast was wonderful, enough energy for another long day after landing. Maybe the amenity kits were removed on flights to Australia, but basic amenities were available in the lavatory for all passengers, so it was still fine.
